I was just thinking…

Sitting under this dryer at Marie’s today brought back some memories I haven’t thought about in years.

Did you know I went to beauty school?

Back in the late ’70s and early ‘80s, when everybody wanted Farrah Fawcett’s hair, feathered layers were everywhere, and perms were all the rage!

Oh, those perms! The little rods, the end papers, and THAT SMELL! If you know, you know!

But we also had our regular ladies who came in for their shampoo and sets.

Remember the little blue-haired ladies? And I mean that literally!

Those blue rinses were supposed to brighten their gray or white hair, but sometimes they got a little carried away with the blue!

They weren’t interested in Farrah Fawcett’s feathers. They wanted their curls just so, their hair teased into place, and enough hairspray to survive a tornado!

And there I was, a young girl learning the beauty business, working on women who had been getting their hair done longer than I’d been alive.

Back then, I was so busy learning how to do their hair, I never really thought about the lives those women had lived.

Only this time, I’m the one under the dryer!

And Marie has decorated the whole thing for Halloween, so I’m sitting here looking like part of the decorations! 😂

Once upon a time, I was the young girl standing behind that salon chair.

And now I’m the lady sitting in it.

Funny how life comes full circle, isn’t it?

Who else remembers those blue rinses and the unmistakable smell of a fresh perm?

I’m still OBSESSED with this transformation!!

When she came in she told us she had been turned away by every salon so far until someone pointed her our way! Marie got to work asap and made sure she was leaving lighter both physically and mentally 🫶
